Where do clinics typically go wrong when it comes to quality and documentation?
There’s often uncertainty about what actually needs to be documented – and a lack of insight into what happens day to day. Routines become “something we do”, rather than something that is clearly described and followed up on.
What was your role in developing the quality management system?
I contributed best-practice content on hygiene, X-rays, workplace risk assessments and employee development reviews. I have worked with quality management systems in dental clinics since 2008 – covering both ISO certification and practical quality assurance.
What sets clinics with quality under control apart from those that ‘keep it all in their heads’?
You simply cannot keep it all in your head. There are too many details, and things get forgotten in a busy working day. Clinics with quality under control have clear routines and documentation that they actually use.
What would you say to a clinic owner who thinks: “Quality management systems take too much time”?
The time spent on implementation pays for itself many times over. Once the system is in place, it brings peace of mind, clear responsibilities and easy onboarding for new staff. Nothing gets forgotten – not even the documentation.
